Industrial policy and the risks of national champions

Speaking from the 2024 World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Adam S. Posen, president of the Peterson Institute for International Economics, raises concerns  that  industrial policies—including trade barriers, subsidies, and regulations to favor domestic industries—will transform companies into “national champions,” to the detriment of global  common standards, efficiency, and stable prices for the developing world.
