Julieta Contreras
Julieta Contreras, statistician, joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics in December 2021, where she is responsible for data quality control and advises on data and statistics used in the Institute's publications. She also works with Executive Vice President and Director of Studies Marcus Noland on a variety of research topics.
Prior to joining the Institute, Contreras worked on the trade forecast at the Economic Research and Statistics Division at the World Trade Organization. She worked as a research analyst at the Bank for International Settlements where she coauthored a working paper on the determinants of bank profitability in emerging markets. Contreras was also an economist at the Bank of Mexico.
Contreras earned her master's degree in international economics from the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva and received a bachelor's degree in economics from Tecnologico de Monterrey.
She is fluent in Spanish.
