Event Summary

PIIE and the China Development Research Foundation (CDRF) launched their respective reports on China's Belt and Road Initiative on April 21, 2016. The PIIE Briefing China's Belt and Road Initiative: Motives, Scope, and Challenges, edited by Simeon Djankov and Sean Miner, puts the Chinese financial outreach in the context of past multilateral and national development initiatives and presents lessons on best practices that would benefit China, recipient countries, and the world.

The event featured an on-the-record discussion with CDRF Secretary General Lu Mai and PIIE President Adam S. Posen. Presenters included Simeon Djankov, PIIE visiting fellow; Fang Jin, deputy secretary-general of CDRF; Huo Jianguo, senior researcher at Ministry of Commerce; Sean Miner, PIIE's China program manager; Qi Zhang, deputy director at the Development Research Center of the State Council; Fan Zhang, professor at Peking University; and Ji Qiang, research fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
