The Peterson Institute for International Economics mourns the passing of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, brilliant and public-spirited financier, philanthropist, adviser to governments, and generous supporter of the Peterson Institute through the Eranda Rothschild Foundation. Sir Evelyn's wife of 22 years, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, CEO and president of E.L. Rothschild Limited, serves on the Peterson Institute board of directors.

Sir Evelyn died at his home in London on November 7 at the age of 91.

In addition to his family foundation's support, Sir Evelyn was a lively and engaged participant in many Institute activities, including three PIIE-sponsored trips to China, during which he joined meetings with top Chinese officials, scholars, and business leaders. His contribution was enriched by his own multi-decade presence in China as an investor and a public face of capitalism.

Sir Evelyn was also deeply committed to work and educational opportunities for young people. At PIIE, he and Lady de Rothschild created and generously supported the Eranda Rothschild Foundation Junior Fellowship program for young research analysts pursuing careers in international economic issues. His wit, broad range of interests, and humanity will be deeply missed by these young scholars and indeed all at the Institute and its board of directors with whom he came in contact.
