Description
The Forbes Global 2000 companies list, which ranks the top 2000 largest public companies annually, was notable in 2014 because for the first time, three Chinese banks (ICBC, China Construction Bank, and Agribultural Bank of China) topped the list. In 2006, there were no Chinese firms in even the top 50 companies. Between 2006 and 2014, 121 Chinese firms were added to the Global 2000. This week’s chart breaks down the share of Chinese firms on the Forbes Global 2000 list by sector. In 2006, Chinese firms made up less than 5 percent of any industry. While there are still no Chinese firms in some tech-related sectors (notably software and semiconductors), in 2014, both state-owned and private companies were established in pharmaceuticals, hospitality, construction, consumer goods, finance, retail and technology. New firms were also added in existing sectors, with particular growth in banking and materials producers.
