In remarks at the American Economic Association's (AEA) Allied Social Science Associations 2022 virtual annual meeting, PIIE president Adam S. Posen discussed the US-led corrosion of globalization and its effect on global growth. Posen argued the US retreat from international economic policymaking and the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic could lead to greater regionalization of products and services, with increasingly divergent standards and reduced labor mobility across borders, adding new barriers to global growth and investment and making it more difficult for developing countries to compete.
