Zhuowen Li

Zhuowen Li joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics as a research analyst in May 2024. He collaborates with Dennis Weatherstone Senior Fellow Martin Chorzempa, Senior Fellows Tianlei Huang and Nicolas Véron, and Nonresident Senior Fellows Nicholas R. Lardy and Yeling Tan on topics related to China's political economy, financial system, and the economic implications of artificial intelligence.

Before joining the Institute, Li worked at the American Enterprise Institute and the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where he conducted research on US-China economic relations, China's industrial and technology policy, and international security affairs. His commentary has appeared in the South China Morning Post, the Wire China, the Diplomat, and East Asia Forum.

Li holds a master's degree in analytical political economy from Duke University. He received his bachelor's degree in economics and finance with a minor in psychology from Tsinghua University in Beijing. Li is a native Mandarin speaker.
