Event Summary
The Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation have launched a new multiyear project, the High-Level Working Group on Japan-US Common Economic Challenges. A public seminar was held at the Peterson Institute on June 3, 2014, on current policy regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), fiscal sustainability, and slow growth.
Members of the working group include distinguished economists and former government officials from both countries. The initiative provides a forum for frank and substantive exchange on key issues with the hope and expectation of generating significant policy advice and new applied research ideas, as well as an important channel for communication between the two countries. The group will meet twice yearly with a second session planned for Tokyo at the end of 2014.
