The Peterson Institute held its semiannual Global Economic Prospects session on October 2, 2014. David J. Stockton presented the outlook for the US economy and its implications for macroeconomic policies, especially the widely anticipated start to the withdrawal of monetary accommodation. Simeon Djankov, visiting fellow and former deputy prime minister and finance minister of Bulgaria, offered his views on the economic challenges facing Europe and the likely response of policymakers to these challenges. Adam S. Posen presented the current and prospective economic conditions in Japan, examined the success of the policies that have been implemented by the Abe government, and laid out the key work that remains to be done.
