Richard Baldwin explores the key arguments from his new e-book, The Great Trade Hack: How Trump’s 2025 Tariff Blitz Fails and the World Moves On, published by the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). Baldwin explains how the latest wave of US tariffs was not grounded in economic strategy but in grievance politics. Tariffs, Baldwin shows, are political placebos that won’t fix the US economy but could fracture the global trade system. Blending sharp analysis with policy insight, he maps out three futures for world trade and urges global leaders to defend the rules by following them. The system can survive and even thrive if world leaders step up.
His remarks are followed by an expert discussion and audience Q&A.
