Message to Langley: call Los Angeles. The City of Angels, specifically the Department of Political Science at UCLA, seems to be a hotbed of prognostication. First, one grad student won our “The bombing begins in five minutes contest,” correctly predicting North Korea’s third nuclear test within 24 hours. Now another grad student, Joonbum Bae, has won our “UN swings into action” contest, correctly predicting both the form of the UN response—a Security Council resolution—and coming within one day of getting the correct date. For his Nostradamus-like skills, Joonbum gets a copy of Haggard and Noland, Engaging North Korea: The Role of Economic Statecraft. I wonder what they're putting in the water over on Sawtelle Blvd.
