Luke Herman at NKNews.org published an incredible story earlier this year highlighting several flash style video games produced by North Korea's Uriminzokkiri web site. Check out his story for greater detail, but the general idea is that North Korea has produced a number of highly violent and often racist video games targeting the nation's many enemies old and new.

Perhaps the most violent is "Beating up Rat LMB" which allows the player to brutally beat a defenseless Lee Myung Bak as his face becomes increasingly damaged. Curious readers can play the game here. Similarly violent games include "Path Taken by a Traitor" which targets 2002 South Korean conservative party candidate, Lee Hoe Chang. In this game, players attempt to hang Chang as he moves about the screen. The game can be found here.
The other four games highlighted are far more cartoonish but equally mean spirited. In "Fighting Against the Japanese Pirates," players try to repel Japanese invaders from centuries past. The game can be found here. "Treasure Key" is the silliest of the six games and involves a Korean woman navigating a simple maze fighting off South Korean rats, Japanese monkeys, and George W. Bush as a yankee dog. If the player survives the three stages and collect all the keys, they accomplish reunification between the two Koreas in a very DPRK-centric fashion. Play the game here. The final two games are the fly swatter game and the ubiquitous whack-a-mole except with South Korean, Japanese, and US (George W. again) enemies. Those two can be played here and here.
Obviously, we don't endorse these games and their message is despicable, but it remains quite interesting to see how a country living in the past utilizes modern technologies. We'll keep you posted when they start putting out games for the Xbox or Play Station.
