Google Maps in North Korea

Anytime Google is mentioned, we tend to get scooped, but we thought we'd give it a try anyway.  The web was abound with reports this week that Google Maps had updated its coverage of North Korea to include higher quality maps with Pyongyang street names and other landmarks incorporated. Now, interested users can locate Pyongyang's subway stations,  parks, and hospitals. While this is quite cool and we're always happy to have North Korea news reach a wider audience, we are reminded that this mapping of North Korea is nothing new.  Curtis Melvin, author of North Korea Economy Watch, has been producing incredibly detailed maps of North Korea since 2006.  Recently, he worked with 38 North to create the DPRK Digital Atlas which provides in depth information on all of the cities and regions of North Korea.

Have a look at the Google update, but do yourself a favor and check out Curtis Melvin's in depth maps when you're done.
