Commission of Inquiry Washington Hearings

Date

Body

On 30-31 October the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea held public hearings in Washington. In an earlier post, Steph Haggard mentioned the testimony by two refugees on sadistic treatment by guards in lower-level detention centers for those repatriated by the Chinese on 30 October. On 31 October the Commission reconvened, beginning with testimony by Victor Cha and then testimony by Andrew Natsios and myself specifically on the right to food (beginning at the 1:05 mark).

The Commission reconvened in the afternoon. A separate video link contains testimony by Joe Bermudez, discussing to the 53:40 mark, and David Hawk on the prison camp system [53-01:32], Roberta Cohen on internally displaced persons and refugees, particularly with respect to the treatment of women [01:32-02:13], John Zimmerlee on POW/MIAs [2:13-2:48], and finally Jared Genser on the right to protection [02:48-03:15].
