Mary E. Lovely says on CNN International that the terms US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent laid out on October 27 for a prospective US-China trade deal mean the two countries will be “back to a status quo.” China is reverting to purchase levels it made before, such as in soybeans, but the deal does not contain much in terms of the systemic and structural issues the US wants China to address—industrial subsidies, reviving its domestic demand, and opening up to more US exports.
