Jared Bernstein was appointed to the Council by President Joseph R. Biden Jr. on January 20, 2021. Before this appointment, Bernstein spent 16 years in senior roles at the Economic Policy Institute and worked at the Department of Labor. He was a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities from 2011 to 2020. From 2009 to 2011, he was chief economist and economic adviser to then–Vice President Biden.
