The Honorable Ed Fast, Canada's Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, discussed the successful two-way economic relationship the between Canada and the United States at the Peterson Institute on March 14, 2013. He also spoke about the partnership's continued leadership on the world stage, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership and joint efforts to address environmental, economic, and energy security issues.

Minister Fast was appointed to his cabinet position in May 2011 to serve as Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. Minister Fast practiced corporate and commercial law for 24 years, prior to his election to the Canadian House of Commons in 2006. Before being appointed to this Cabinet position, Minister Fast served on a number of parliamentary committees and chaired the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights.
