Ramin Toloui, the US Treasury Assistant Secretary for International Finance, presented the speech "The State of the Global Economy: Highlights from the G-20" on March 15, 2016, at the Peterson Institute. Assistant Secretary Toloui shared the Treasury's perspective on the state of the global economy and the important issues discussed in at the recent G-20 summit in Shanghai, including how to interpret the commitments of countries reflected in the latest G-20 communique.
Toloui was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 20, 2014. Prior to joining the Treasury, he served as global cohead of emerging markets portfolio management at PIMCO, a position he held since 2011, and chaired the firm's Asia-Pacific portfolio committee since 2012. He has also held various positions at the Treasury, including director of the office of the Western Hemisphere from 2003 to 2006, senior advisor to the Under Secretary for International Affairs from 2001 to 2003, and deputy director and international economist in the office of Central and Southeastern Europe from 1999 to 2001.
