Event Summary
The Peterson Institute released the book Sovereign Wealth Funds: Threat or Salvation? by Senior Fellow Edwin M. Truman on October 12, 2010. Truman has been perhaps the leading nongovernmental analyst of sovereign wealth funds (SWF). His "scoreboard," rating SWFs against a set of clear criteria, played an important role in the adoption of the voluntary Santiago Principles to guide their activities. In his new comprehensive study on SWFs, Truman examines where they might be headed, how policy toward them might evolve, and presents an update to his SWF scoreboard.
Edwin M. Truman was director of the International Finance Division at the Federal Reserve Board for over 20 years, serving as chief international advisor to both Paul Volcker and Alan Greenspan throughout the crises of the 1980s and 1990s. He completed his public service as assistant secretary of the US Treasury for International Affairs in 1998–2001 and joined the Institute as a senior fellow immediately thereafter.
