Event Summary

The Peterson Institute hosted a seminar with Russia's G-20 Sherpa Ksenia Yudaeva and Deputy Minister of Finance Sergei Storchak on April 17, 2013. Russia has chaired the G-20 since December 2012, and it is preparing for the next G-20 summit to be held in St. Petersburg on September 5-6. Yudaeva and Storchak discussed what Russia hopes to accomplish as chair of the G-20, which questions the G-20 will focus on, and what the possibilities for success are in these policy areas.

Ksenia Yudaeva is Russia's chief of the directorate of presidential experts and was appointed the G-20 Sherpa in summer 2012. Previously, she served as chief economist of Sberbank, Russia's biggest bank. She has also worked for several Moscow think tanks, including the Center for Strategic Research and the Carnegie Moscow Center. Dr. Yudaeva earned her PhD in economics from MIT.

Sergei Storchak has been Russia's deputy minister of finance responsible for international financial policy since 2005. Before joining the ministry of finance, he was deputy chairman of Vneshekonombank and had prior service as an economic diplomat. He holds a PhD in international economics from the Moscow State Institute for International Relations.
