For years, national authorities in charge of insurance supervision have been discussing international standards for capital, comparable to the Basel accords for banks, and common solvency requirements for international insurance groups. Preparations are entering a critical stage with the expected publication this summer of a public consultation on the Insurance Capital Standard (ICS) as a prescribed capital requirement.
