Event Summary

The Bank of Korea (BOK) and the Korean Ministry of Strategy and Finance (MOSF) hosted a joint conference with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) on the “Prospects and Challenges for Sustained Growth in Asia” on September 7 and 8, 2017, in Seoul, South Korea. Distinguished scholars and senior policymakers from around the world discussed potential responses to the economic challenges facing Asian countries today including changes in the region’s demographics, technological advancements, and productivity slowdown.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde delivered an opening speech, "Asia-Pacific Region: Gearing Up for the Next Transformation." Also speaking at the opening session were First Vice Minister of Strategy and Finance Hyoung-Kwon Ko and Bank of Korea Governor Juyeol Lee.

Experts from PIIE participating in the conference included Adam S. Posen, Lee Branstetter, Olivier Jeanne, Joseph E. Gagnon, and Caroline Freund.
