Event Summary
Catherine L. Mann, chief economist at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), presented the speech “Productivity, Reallocation, and Equity: Challenges of the New Technological and Global Landscapes” on October 11, 2017 at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE). PIIE Senior Fellow Chad P. Bown commented on the issues raised by Mann's presentation.
Mann has been the OECD chief economist and head of the economics department since October 2014. She was previously the Rosenberg Professor of Global Finance at Brandeis University and PIIE senior fellow and visiting fellow during 1997–2011. Earlier Mann worked as a special assistant to the vice-president for development economics/chief economist at the World Bank. She spent 13 years on the Federal Reserve Board as a senior economist.
Bown has been a senior fellow at PIIE since April 2016. He previously served as senior economist for international trade and investment in the White House on the Council of Economic Advisers and most recently as a lead economist at the World Bank. Bown was a tenured professor of economics at Brandeis University, where he held a joint appointment in the economics department and International Business School for 12 years.
