Event Summary
With the generous hospitality of Andrew Crockett of J.P. Morgan Chase, the Institute hosted a meeting in New York on December 8, 2009, to discuss policy response to the current financial crisis. Senior Fellow Morris Goldstein presented his new ten-plank proposal for international reform of financial regulation, the central issue being discussed around the world, including in working groups created by the G-20 at its November 15, 2008 summit in Washington, DC.
With this event, the Institute reinstated its program of periodic meetings in New York on key financial topics. The Institute held such sessions on a quarterly basis in the 1990s under the chairmanship of Paul Volcker to address similar issues triggered by the Mexican and Asian Financial Crises. With the renewed focus on financial market issues and policies, the Institute is reviving the series in the hope that such meetings will help inform thinking in the private sector as well as in official circles.
