Event Summary
The Peterson Institute held a conference on US trade policy on June 19, 2012, to cover the entire range of major trade policy issues that might be addressed during the remainder of 2012 and in 2013.
Congressman Kevin Brady, Chairman of the Trade Subcommittee of the House Ways and Means Committee, delivered the opening keynote speech, providing a comprehensive overview of the trade policy outlook. Panelists from the Peterson Institute covered dimensions of current US trade policy: Gary Clyde Hufbauer on a recovery program for the WTO, J. Bradford Jensen on an international services agreement, Arvind Subramanian on a China Round, and C. Fred Bergsten and J. Jeffrey Schott on the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Randi Levinas, Coalition for US-Russia Trade, commented on Permanent Normal Trade Relations (PNTR) for Russia. The Institute will be releasing new studies on several of these topics.
