Event Summary

The Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) will debut Global Connections, a new monthly virtual event series hosted by Caroline Atkinson, senior advisor at RockCreek and PIIE executive committee member. Global Connections will explore new global thinking on macroeconomic policy goals and tools to achieve broad-based, sustainable and equitable increases in living standards.

Governments around the world have run up large fiscal deficits in the face of the 2020 coronavirus recession, yet unemployment remains high and inflation and interest rates are low. Is there scope for further fiscal spending without triggering inflation and crowding out private investment, and should fiscal policies be coordinated internationally to be more effective?
