Robert Hormats, undersecretary of state for economic, energy and agricultural affairs, delivered a speech entitled "New Patterns of Investment in the New Global Economy: Implications for US Leadership" at the Peterson Institute for International Economics, October 6, 2010.
Hormats was sworn in as undersecretary a year ago. He had previously served as assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs (1981–82), deputy US trade representative (1979–81), senior deputy assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs (1977–79) and senior staff member for international economic affairs to the National Security Council (1969–77). He was vice chairman of Goldman Sachs (International) before returning to government. He has served on the board of visitors of the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and received the school's Distinguished Leadership Award. He wrote The Price of Liberty: Paying for America's Wars from the Revolution to the War on Terror in 2007.
