Event Summary

On January 27, 2015, Alejandro Werner, International Monetary Fund, will discuss "Falling on Hard Times," his reexamination of the current outlook for Latin America, focusing on key regional vulnerabilities and policy challenges given the changing commodity and monetary environment.

Dr. Werner has been the director of the Western hemisphere department at the International Monetary Fund since 2013. He was head of corporate and investment banking at BBVA-Bancomer from 2011 to 2012. Prior to this position, he served as undersecretary of finance and public credit of Mexico from 2006 to 2010. Previously, he taught at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid, Spain from 2010 to 2011, was director of economic studies at the Bank of Mexico, as well as professor at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM).
