Event Summary

Douglas H. Brooks, assistant chief economist in the Economics and Research Department at the Asian Development Bank (ADB), presented the ADB's flagship publication Key Indicators for Asia and the Pacific 2013 (Key Indicators) at the Peterson Institute on October 29, 2013. Robert Dohner, deputy assistant secretary for Asia, United States Department of the Treasury, offered comments following Brooks's presentation.

This year's edition of the Key Indicators focuses on the economic transformation Asia has experienced during the last four decades and where the region is headed. The report discusses how the transformation will unfold in different economies under different conditions and how governments can facilitate this process—shifting from a predominantly agricultural economy to a more industrialized one, overcoming the middle income trap, and facilitating the development of the emerging service sector.
