Lael Brainard, member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, presented her insights on current financial stability issues on December 7, 2018, at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Olivier Blanchard, C. Fred Bergsten Senior Fellow at the Institute and former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, chaired the event and provided his own insights during the discussion session.

Brainard was appointed to the Board of Governors at the Fed in June 2014. Previously she served as undersecretary of the US Department of Treasury from 2010 to 2013 and counselor to the secretary of the Treasury in 2009. During that time, she was the US representative to the G-20 finance deputies and G-7 deputies and was a member of the Financial Stability Board.
