The Honorable Bill Shorten, member of parliament and leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of Australia, discussed "Global Growth: Trade, Equity, and Opportunity" on July 23, 2014.
Shorten is also leader of the Australian Labor Party. Under the Rudd and Gillard Labor governments (2007–13), Shorten served in a variety of senior ministerial roles including minister for employment and workplace relations, minister for education, minister for financial services, and assistant treasurer. Before entering the Australian Parliament, Shorten was national secretary of the Australian Workers' Union from 2001 to 2007. He attended Xavier College before going on to obtain a double degree in arts and law at Monash University. He also completed an MBA at the Melbourne Business School.
