Event Summary

Dr. Justin Yifu Lin, senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank, presented his analysis of the causes and impact of the global financial crisis and its implication for developing countries at a meeting at the Institute on February 9, 2009.

Dr. Lin was awarded China's highest prize for economists in both 1993 and 2001 and is the first Chinese national to hold such a high position at either the International Monetary Fund or the World Bank. He received his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago in 1986 and has written over 100 articles and 16 books, including The China Miracle: Development Strategy and Economic Reform. He was founding director of the China Center for Economic Research in 1993.
