Pier Carlo Padoan, Italy's minister of economy and finance, discussed the future of the European Union and strategies toward more growth and stability.
Minister Padoan was appointed in the government led by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi in February 2014. Previously, he served as deputy secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) from 2007 to 2014. On December 1, 2009, he was also appointed OECD chief economist while retaining his role as deputy secretary-general. From 2001 to 2005, he held the position of Italian executive director at the International Monetary Fund and chaired a number of board committees. From 1998 to 2001, Padoan served as economic adviser in charge of international economic policies to the Italian prime ministers Massimo D'Alema and Giuliano Amato.
