Marco Buti, director-general for Economic and Financial Affairs (ECFIN) at the European Commission, discussed “Economic Policy in the Rough: A European Journey” on November 12, 2019, at the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
Buti has been director-general for ECFIN since December 2008. He joined the European Commission in 1987 and held various positions, including economic adviser to the Commission President in 2002–03, director for the Directorate for Economies of the Member States in 2003–06, and deputy director-general for ECFIN in 2006–08. He has been a visiting professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the University of Florence, and the European University Institute.
