Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, discussed developments in EU-US financial services, including the completion of the banking union and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), on June 13, 2014, at the Peterson Institute.

Michel Barnier has been European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services since 2010. He is also vice president of the European People's Party (EPP) and political advisor of the Union pour un Mouvement Populaire (UMP). Commissioner Barnier has held a number of local, national, and European positions, including French Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries (2007–09), French Minister for Foreign Affairs (2004–05), and European Commissioner for regional policy and institutional reform (1999–2004).
