Claudia Biancotti, PIIE visiting fellow, discussed recent developments in advanced economies on protection of digital data in a talk entitled “Strategic Implications of Data Protection Laws” on November 18, 2019, at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. The subsequent panel of experts addressing the topic “New Generation Payments: Promises and Risks” featured Martin Chorzempa, PIIE research fellow; Thomas W. Halpin, HSBC’s managing director and global head of payments product management; Elise Houlik, Mastercard’s vice president and senior managing counsel for privacy and data protection; and Nicolas Véron, PIIE senior fellow. They covered relevant developments in the financial sector in China and elsewhere around the world.
