Event Summary
How is Europe responding to the current geopolitical turbulence, with the multilateral rules-based order put into question and old alliances under strain, not least between the European Union and the United States? Nadia Calviño, former first vice-president of Spain, who took over the helm of the European Investment Bank Group in 2024, discusses why she believes Europe can play a crucial role in providing stability and why partnership is the best guarantee for peace and prosperity.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the financial arm of the European Union, owned by its 27 member states and tasked with delivering EU policy through strategic investments both inside and inside the European Union. The EIB is also one of the world's largest multilateral development banks with a balance sheet that exceeds that of the World Bank.
A Q&A with PIIE nonresident senior fellow and former European commissioner for trade Cecilia Malmström follows Calviño's presentation.
