Event Summary

In ancient times, India was a leading global exporter of silk, spices, textiles, cotton, and sugar. In modern times, though, India has been reluctant to engage in free trade agreements. This might be changing. In the last five years, India, now the most populous country in the world, has signed 13 free trade agreements, and more are in negotiations.

What is the trade policy of the Indian government? Does India plan to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership? And why is India such a difficult player in the World Trade Organization? How does Delhi see the organization evolving?
