NGOs in Action: European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea

Date

Body

We like to spotlight existing and new organizations doing work on North Korea, and New Focus International brought this start-up to our attention: the European Alliance for Human Rights in North Korea.  According to its founder Mike Glendinning, the organization began via social media and has the ambition to work with refugees to highlight issues for a European audience. More European organizations working on this issue are beginning to emerge; last year, we noted the formation of program under the Hans Seidel Foundation seeking to work with South Korean human rights and refugee groups. If there are others, let us know below. The EU has played a highly constructive role in the UN human rights debates and the European Parliament has a staffer somewhere who is producing tough-minded briefs.  The more voices the merrier.
