Bring Food to the Party

Today after work, as I do every March 17th, I will cruise over to my friend Pat Barry’s house to celebrate our ancestors’ good sense to have left Ireland and come to America. Political upheavals drove my family out in the 17th century, Pat’s came later, during the famine period. Some people bring food to the party.  I usually bring Pat a nice bottle of whiskey and some cigars.

My partner, Professor Haggard, pointed out the most extraordinary thing, reported this week in the DailyNK.  I quote:

“Departments in charge of military procurement have apparently been focusing their efforts on market traders and enterprise cadres and workers, offering ‘incentives’ to inspire people to help….. Partly as a result of this, the drive has been quite successful, the source also said, adding that “anyone who gives one ton can join the Party right there and then; and nobody asks about or investigates the source of the rice.”

Really brings new meaning to the saying “don’t come to the party empty-handed.”
