There are many" interesting" people that make up the North Korea watching community. This list now even includes the likes of Dennis Rodman and the Harlem Globetrotters. A country of such idiosyncratic ways is bound to attract a wide range of observers. This week, we were reminded of one of the original "interesting" followers of North Korea. Bobby Egan is the owner of Cubby's Barbeque in Hackensack, but he is also the published author of "Eating with the Enemy: How I Waged Peace with North Korea from My BBQ Shack in Hackensack." Egan became famous for his 25 year highly unofficial diplomatic relationship with members of North Korea's leadership including the North Korean ambassador to the UN, Han Song Ryol. If you don't remember Egan, have a look at this detailed Washington Post piece on Egan from 2008.
Since 2008, Egan hasn't been actively waging peace with North Korea, but he did take time to sit down with Justin Rohrlich for an NKNews interview about his feelings on the current tensions in North Korea.
