Nicolette Mehran
Nicolette Mehran joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics in 2026 as director of government affairs. In this capacity, she serves as a liaison for coordinating PIIE's outreach and engagement with the federal government.
Prior to joining PIIE, she was a member of the government affairs team at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), most recently serving as the associate director of government affairs. During her time at CFR, she managed strategic engagement with Congress, the executive branch, and the Washington, DC–based diplomatic community, and organized hundreds of briefings and roundtables for members of Congress and congressional staff.
Earlier in her career, Mehran served in the US House of Representatives as a staff assistant and later as special assistant for operations for then Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer. Her responsibilities in this role included assisting with setting and communicating the legislative schedule for the House of Representatives and external stakeholders, supporting member services for the House Democratic Caucus, and the daily logistics and administration of Hoyer's office.
An Atlanta, Georgia native, she graduated with her bachelor's and master's degrees in international affairs from the Georgia Institute of Technology's Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, where she focused on international security, globalization, and development.
