The Iron Dome comes to Korea?
by Marcus Noland | December 12th, 2012 | 07:03 amYou Tube viewers from around the world were wowed by Israeli Iron Dome technology deployed during the recent fighting with Hamas. Now the Iron Dome may be coming to the Korean peninsula as part of an Israeli-South Korean arms deal. According to an Israeli paper, Israel will supply the Iron Dome in exchange for four patrol boats from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering. According to the paper the deal is partly in response to Korea Aerospace Industries not getting the contract earlier this year to supply T-50 trainer jets to Israel, which instead chose a model from Italy’s Alenia Aermacchi. South Korea is reputedly Israel’s number one export target for the system whose maker brags that “it is cheaper than the things it protects!” Don’t think that Iron Dome is effective against an ICBM, but today’s missile test will surely give the initiative a shot in the arm.
