Foreign companies in China facing discrimination from Chinese policies and pressure from the US government to leave are searching for ways to create more resilient supply chains geographically. But hopes that Mexico could lure investments reorienting US supply chains to North America have fallen short of fulfilment. In a new PIIE Briefing produced collaboratively with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), scholars and former officials assess the obstacles Mexico must overcome to become a viable “nearshoring” location.
