Summary

Senior Fellows Michael Mussa, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, and Adam S. Posen discussed the international economic outlook for the rest of 2007 and for 2008 at the Institute's twelfth semiannual Global Economic Prospects meeting.

Michael Mussa was chief economist of the International Monetary Fund from 1991 until 2001 and a member of the Council of Economic Advisers during 1986–88; he addressed the outlook for the overall world economy. The Peterson Institute's newest senior fellow, Douglas Holtz-Eakin, was Director of the Congressional Budget Office from 2003 to 2005, after serving as chief economist at the Council of Economic Advisers during 2001–2003; he focused on the prospects for growth and inflation in the United States. Senior Fellow Adam Posen, whose appointment as deputy director of the Institute was announced at the meeting, discussed recent developments in key world financial markets and their implications for the economic outlook beyond the United States.
