Summary

Philip K. Verleger discussed US energy policy at the Peterson Institute on March 27, 2012. Verleger, a private consultant on energy issues and a widely quoted expert, believes that the United States will approach full energy independence over the next decade and discussed some of the economic implications of such independence.

Verleger is president of PKVerleger LLC and was a senior economist at both the Council of Economic Advisors and the Treasury Department in the 1970s. He was a senior fellow at the Institute during 1986–93, authoring Adjusting to Volatile Energy Prices. For the last three years he was the David Mitchell/Encana Professor at the Haskayne School of Management at the University of Calgary in Canada.
