Duvvuri Subbarao, governor of the Reserve Bank of India, discussed India's economic prospects at the Peterson Institute for International Economics on April 26, 2010. He focused on the challenges of monetary and exchange rate management in a dynamic emerging economy, challenges that a number of other emerging market economies also face.

Subbarao assumed office as the twenty-second governor of the Reserve Bank on September 5, 2008. He previously served as finance secretary to the government from April 2007 to September 2008 and as secretary to the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council from March 2005 to March 2007. During 1988–98, he worked in various positions in the state government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India. He was a lead economist at the World Bank (1999–2004), where he managed a flagship study on decentralization across major East Asian countries.
